The Essential Elements“Liki, we need more mangoes!”   
Liki looked up from her sewing and looked at her mother.  Her mother was Maori, like everyone else in the small village of Lompiki, on the island of the same name.   
“Do I have to, mother? I’m almost finished.”   
Her mother put her hands on her wide hips and glowered at her.  Her mother, like most mothers, did not like to repeat herself.  Liki caught the look on her face and jumped up.  Grabbing a satchel off of a hangar near the door to their straw hut, she ran out the door.

Nervous calm filled the dining room.  It had been a week since Jonathan had come in front of the society at breakfast and first explained to them what a snake was, who Charlan was, and why the United States of America was screwed.

In the hallway, Jack was beating on her brother’s door.  
 
“ZACK! WAKE UP!”   
Mark walked up to her.  “What’s going on?”   
Jack spun to face him.  With a massive smile on her face, she wrapped him up in a huge mouth and kissed him hard on the lips.  Mark took a step back, pushing her away.  “What the hell do you think your doing?”   
“I did it!” she practically screamed at him.  “I didn’t change!”
